Protip: usually, you can get your hotel to switch out the minibar for just an empty fridge. Especially important if you plan on putting anything in the minbar due to the weight sensors.

Since you asked, as an amateur photographer (and who isn’t these days, amirite?) I’d say the wedding pictures are competent. Not $10,000 worth of competent, but merely competent. I’ve seen better for significantly less. By significantly I mean WAAAYYYY less than half.

Incidentally, this is exactly where airline protocol wants lap babies to be placed during an emergency landing.

When I lived (temporarily) in Hanoi for work, I loved to go to Cafe Marilyn/Marilyn Cafe to read, drink coffee, and people watch. It was a little off-the-beaten-path, in that it was in a backpacker area but you needed to walk through a first-floor boutique to find the staircase to go to the second/third floor Read more

Don’t get a gown you can’t walk in, can’t breathe in, and needs a bunch of attendants to hold the train and keep you from sweeping things off of tables. Don’t wear shoes that are painful or hard Read more

I had to fill out some dumbass survey to get a quote from a local photographer, and one of the questions was “what kind of bride are you?” Choices were: Traditional, Wild, DIY, Fairytale (and maybe I’m missing another one). I clicked “other” and wrote “simple.” I am a simple goddamn bride. Yes, my wedding will be Read more

Waiheke! Waiheke! It’s an island full of wineries and beaches, a 40-minute ferry away from Auckland (NZ). It’s where I go and where I take people to sleep off the jet lag after 12+ hour flights.

In Edinburgh, Scotland The Barony on Broughton Street is an awesomely chill bar. Because it is such a huge tourist attraction, yet a relatively small city, lots of the city centre pubs can get rammed and be full of tourists or people on stag/hen parties. This is a chilled little bar, where dogs are welcome. It has a Read more

In Paris, one of my favorite things to do after a busy morning of sightseeing is buy a bottle of wine, go sit in Place des Vosges (there are many other wonderful parks where you could do the same, but for some reason I am partial to this one), and read for a few hours. Read more
